Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Dakar

Arrival Day at the Hotel

Your Senegalese adventure begins as soon as you touch down in Dakar, Senegal’s colorful capital. You will be escorted to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. Upon your arrival to the accommodations, you will check-in and be given time to wind down. At dinner, you will meet the team and review the trip itinerary.

Day 2 - Dakar City Tour

Pink Lake • City Tour

Your tour will begin with a visit to Dakar’s distinctive Pink Lake or “Lac Rose” in French. See the locals hard at work, harvesting salt from the lake that gives Senegal the title of the number one salt producer in Africa. You will then explore Dakar’s sand dunes by going on a rousing ATV adventure. After a delicious lunch, you will have the opportunity to see Senegal’s most recognized statue: Le Monument de la Renaissance. The African Renaissance Monument stands 161 feet tall (49 m) and symbolizes the liberation of the African people. 

Day 3 - Goree Island

Gorée Island • Museum of Black Civilizations

You will commence the day by taking the ferry to Gorée Island. This UNESCO World Heritage site lies just west of Dakar; from the 15th-19th century it was the largest slave trading center on the African coast. Today it serves as a testament to the resilience of African people. Following a filling lunch, you will visit the Museum of Black Civilizations. This ultramodern museum showcases one of Africa’s largest art collections. Le Musée des Civilisations Noires was recognized by Time magazine as one of the “World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2019.”  

Day 4 - Beach Day

Beach Day

You will have today to rest and relax. You will wake up at your leisure, have a tasty breakfast, and decide the pace of your day. You will have an opportunity to participate in some of the activities at the hotel or enjoy some of Senegal’s picturesque beaches. You will also have the option of using Dakar’s renowned outdoor exercise spaces. End the day by partaking in nightlife at one of Dakar’s exciting bars or clubs. The day is yours! 

Day 5 - Fathala Reserve

Fathala Wildlife Reserve

You will begin your day bright and early. Have your bags packed as you will depart from the hotel today. We will journey south of Dakar; our first stop will be the Fathala Wildlife Reserve. This interactive nature reserve will allow you to get up close and personal with a plethora of wild animals. See lions, zebras, giraffes, and more on this unique excursion. You will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to walk with fully grown lions’ and to feed adorable lion cubs. Under the careful guidance of trained wildlife specialists, you will have a safari experience unlike any other! We will then cross over into The Gambia by way of ferry. There you will check-in to a stunning hotel on the beach. 

Day 6 - Gambia Tour

National Museum • Crocodile Park

Your first day in The Gambia will be spent exploring Banjul, The Gambia’s bustling capital. You will visit the National Museum of The Gambia – home to sundry African artifacts, displays, and historical documents. This museum does an outstanding job of not only telling the story of The Gambia, but also showing how connected we are with other African nations. After pausing for a local lunch, you will proceed to the Kachikally Museum and Crocodile Pool. This unassuming museum holds substantial information about The Gambia’s native history. Here you will also find one of the country’s three sacred crocodile pools used as sites for fertility rituals. The park guides are full of fun facts about crocodiles. If you are feeling brave, you will even have the chance to pet one!

Day 7-Kunta Kinte Island

Kunta Kinteh Island

 After a hearty breakfast, you will say goodbye to your Gambian hotel. Following today’s activities we will head to Senegal once again. Our first stop of the day will be Kunta Kinteh Island. This small island is within the Gambia River, near the town of Juffureh. The UNESCO World Heritage Site once played an important part in the West African slave trade. The island being situated in the middle of the river made it a strategic place to control the waterway. Resulting in both the British and Portuguese vying for jurisdiction of this small landmass. Afterwards, you will return to Senegal by ferry. After checking-in to a beautiful beach resort, you will enjoy your last evening in the Senegambia region. 

Day 8 - Departure

Saly Beach • Departure

The city of Saly is referred to as Senegal’s “Italian Riviera” and after spending the morning at the stunning Saly Beach, you will see why! The majestic coastline combined with luxury hotels, shops, and restaurants makes it perfect end to an iconic trip. We will then make our way to the airport for departure.
